Hi, my name is Deke. I am a creative problem solver. I user design tools to work to make things better tomorrow than they are today. This has taken around the country and I have had the privilege to work with organizations and communities in Rwanda, Uganda, Costa Rica, & Haiti. I started that journey as a development worker but throughout that process operated with a human centered approach and an assumption that those closest to the problem know the most about it and have the most to teach. I have used design skills to research sanitation solutions and work with communities to facilitate a baseline study of the community to measure the impact of a new sanitation solution. For that project we merged the research we could bring from the outside and the design requirements the community presented to bring a comprehensive and sustainable sanitation solution to the people of Cyanika village in Rwanda.
